Forms Assistant FAQ's

When attempting to run the Forms Assistant, I am receiving an ActiveX error.

This means you have to register the file FormsAssistant.dll. In order to do so, you must have rights to write to the C:\ Drive. Close Word and click Windows Start|Run. In the Run dialog box type the following (include the quotes):regsvr32 "path to the dll" (i.e. regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Payne Consulting Group\Forms Assistant\FormsAssistant.dll")

Can I use Forms Assistant on my Citrix Server?

Yes, but you need to make sure that the File Locations (Tools|Options|File Locations) in Word are set to the same location where you are placing the templates on the Server.

When we receive individual file updates, how do I push out the latest files to all of my users?

The most efficient way to push out individual file updates to a large group of users is with a login script program, or a batch file with a login script.

Where does the information that the user saves when creating recipient and document data lists get stored?

Recipient and Document Data lists are saved in a database called FormsAssistantUser.mdb. This file is normally located at C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Payne Consulting Group. It is a good idea to back this file up in the event a user’s PC ever needs to be re-imaged.

I would like to install the Forms Assistant templates on the Network instead of on a local PC. Is there any reason for not doing this?

There are several reasons why in most cases, it is not advisable to place the Forms Assistant templates on the network. First, if the network is down, users won’t have access to the files. Second, network traffic can cause delays accessing templates stored on the network—this problem does not occur when the templates are installed locally. Third, when updates are made to the templates, users ability to access them will be temporarily suspended as the updated files are distributed across the network. Lastly, if your firm is using a packaged MSI to install the templates to the network, all Forms Assistant users will have to be off the system any time a new installation (i.e., new user setup) occurs.
